Here is the information from Diane Brown regarding Operation Christmas Child:

This program is run by Samaritan's Purse International Relief (www.samaritanspurse.org).

Operation Christmas Child - Ways to Help
PRAY -- The most important part of packing a shoe box is your prayers for the child who will receive it.

PACK -- Fill a shoe box with toys, school supplies, hygiene items, hard candy and a personal note. Label it for a girl or boy, age 2-4, 5-9 or 10-14. We also ask that you include $7.00 to help cover shipping and other project costs. National Collection Week is November 17-24, when we will open 2,000 collection centers across the United States. You may drop off your shoe box donation to Diane Brown (1250 Sanborn Ct., Reading) no later than Thursday, November 20 or if you prefer, you can find a drop-off center on www.samaritanspurse.org by entering your zip code.

If you have questions about this opportunity, please contact Diane.

Here is the information from Karla Bailey regarding Nativity School HollyDay Bazaar:

It is held in the lower level school cafeteria on Saturday, Dec. 6th from 9AM till 12:30PM.
Breakfast items are sold & served (waffles, fruit, coffee, etc.) Santa comes & photos are taken, raffle items, craft booths, etc. Last year...the place was very jam-packed with people. Sales could be high if the Troop has items to sell.
I know of 3 items our troop is planning to sell (we are working on the "My Own Business" badge):
Cookie/Brownie/soup ingredients in jars, homemade soaps with a washcloth, handpainted Nativity wooden ornaments. If your Troop would like to participate in this event, the table cost is $10. for 6' of display table space. Also items can be displayed in the window wells above the tables.
The $10. fee will be collected on the day of the Bazaar. But you MUST RSVP by Dec. 1st so you will have table space reserved. I need your Troop Number, Leader Name & phone # & if you wish I can post your items to the Service Unit e-mail list so that there won't be duplicates. Need ideas of what sells?

P.S. Set up begins at 8:30 AM. F.Y.I. Our troop will divide in 2 shifts 8:30-10:30/10:30-12:30) there is NOT a lot of room to stand behind the tables, 3-4 people per shift is max.) You must provide your own change box.
Nativity School is on the corner of Ridge Rd. and Woodford~ Catty-corner from the UDF in Pleasant Ridge.
Cafeteria is in the basement level.

GOLD AWARD PROJECT

by Amy Donelan

Amy Donelan (with her leader/mother Mary Beth Donelan)

Amy built a twenty-foot bridge over a creek in French Park to make a path safer for hikers.  In doing this, Amy worked closely with the Cincinnati Parks Greenspace Manager, Jim Godby, on the plan, organized a crew to help and spent 4 weekends building the bridge from scratch.  This included carrying all the wood almost 1/2 mile to the site and assembling it with the help of the crew.

Amy also organized a Bridging Ceremony for the whole Service Unit.  The Valley Ridge Service Unit was a merger of 3 Service Units, and the Bridging Ceremony provided unity.  The ceremony brought together over 150 people - from the youngest girls to the older girls:

May 2008 BRIDGING CEREMONY

The ceremony concluded with a HUGE Friendship Circle.
